Metal Bellows Applications

Metal bellows are flexible and precise pipe connectors made of various metals with many corrugated convolutions.

It has been widely used in many equipments or systems such as fluid, sealing, sensing, vacuum technology, solar energy, and automobiles.

Below we briefly introduce a few of its most common applications for you.

Piping Expansion Joint

The pipeline expansion joint is an assembly made of bellows as the main body and equipped with various end pipes, brackets, flanges, and other accessories. It helps to absorb pipeline vibration and compensate pipeline displacement caused by thermal expansion and contraction. According to different application fields, it has many different structural styles.

Load Cells

When the bellows are used as a pressure-sensitive part, the open end of the bellows is connected to a fixed base, and the pressure is transmitted to the pipe. Under the action of pressure, the bellows expand or contract until the pressure and elastic force balance. At this time, the free end of the tube produces a certain displacement, after passing through the transmission magnifying mechanism, the pointer is rotated to display the value. The displacement of the free end of the bellows is proportional to the measured pressure

Vacuum Sealing of Vacuum Interrupters

A vacuum interrupter is a switching device that makes current on and off in a vacuum. It is an essential part of medium voltage circuit breakers, high voltage circuit breakers, and generator circuit breakers. Its main contact is located in the vacuum arc chamber, and the bellows are the key element in the vacuum interrupter.

Bellows Mechanical Seals

Compared with ordinary mechanical seals, bellows mechanical seals do not require dynamic auxiliary seals. The probability of leakage is greatly reduced. In addition, due to the characteristics of the metal materials used in the manufacture of the bellows, the applicable medium and temperature range of the bellows mechanical seal is also wider.

Pressure Gauges

The bellows element in the bellows pressure gauge is more sensitive to low pressure than the spring tube and diaphragm, and is often used for low-pressure measurement. It can directly measure the pressure of corrosive gases and liquids. The bellows elements are mainly made of brass, phosphor bronze, or stainless steel.

Valve Sealing Bellows

The bellows are used to connect the valve stem and the valve body to form a dynamic seal and help isolate the fluid medium from the external environment to achieve the goal of zero leakage. The main materials it uses are stainless steel and various high-temperature alloys.

Exhaust Bellows

The exhaust bellows works as an elastic vessel, and can well absorb the rock generated by the engine operation and the thermal expansion caused by the heat of the exhaust system. Because the engine mounts and transmission systems are quite rigid, they cannot move too much.
