Exhaust Bellows Material

Exhaust bellows have a typical feature that is different from other application bellows, must be able to withstand high temperatures.

Its commonly used materials are stainless steel 304, 321, and titanium. According to different working environment and customer needs to choose the most suitable material.

Stainless Steel 304

Stainless steel 304 is the most common and most widely used material. It is suitable for most vehicle exhaust systems. Stainless steel 304 exhaust bellows are favored by many customers because of its economical purchase cost.

For the maximum operating temperature, our recommendation is not to exceed 450 degrees. Because above this temperature, the lifetime of the bellows will be reduced a lot.

Stainless Steel 321

The mechanical properties of stainless steel 321 are similar to those of 304, but the high-temperature resistance is more excellent. For working temperatures over 450 degrees, stainless steel 321 is mainly used.

The maximum operating temperature can reach 600 degrees, which is much higher than stainless steel 304 and 316L. Correspondingly, the material cost of stainless steel 321 is also higher.

Titanium

Titanium is a very expensive metal material, and its application in vehicle smoke exhaust systems has just started.

Titanium is a hard but lightweight metal. Its corrosion resistance is higher than stainless steel, but its weight is nearly half lighter. It is very helpful to reduce the weight of the exhaust system or the vehicle.
